Description
Although it may seem intuitive that South America and Africa could fit together but it took 50 years for the geology community to accept the concept of moving continents. This lecture is divided into two parts: the first presents, chronologically, the lines of evidence leading to the plate tectonics paradigm, while the second covers the findings that led to the acceptance that a large meteorite strike 65 million years ago caused the dinosaurs’ extinction.
Paul Parmentier is a retired geologist living in Los Lunas. After graduating from the University of Brussels in Belgium and Kyushu University in Japan, he spent 30 years practicing environmental geology in California and an additional five years conducting geothermal exploration in the contiguous United States, Alaska, and Japan.
