Description

Whether you’re new to watercolor or picking it up again, this workshop focuses on building confidence and comfort with the medium. Practice mixing colors, creating washes, selecting subjects, and finishing complete paintings. Bring a sketch or photograph to work from, or choose from provided subjects like seascapes, landscapes, or barns. All materials provided are yours to keep. Please bring a materials fee of $35 (cash or check) to first class. Limited enrollment.

Jim Walther has been painting the environment for 50 years, drawing inspiration from the light and landscape of New Mexico for more than 25 of them. A trained plein-air and studio landscape artist, he works in watercolor and oil. Walther studied under noted painter John Hudkins at The Sunrise Art Museum and earned a BFA in visual arts from West Virginia University, focusing on representational landscape painting. He served as executive director of the National Museum of Nuclear Science & History in Albuquerque from 1996 until his retirement in 2023.
