Dementia and Alzheimer’s disease remain a big challenge to our independence and sense of self as we age. What should we do if we notice changes to our cognition and function? This presentation addresses normal, age-related cognitive changes and what to do when there are concerns about declining abilities. What is aging, and what is dementia? Explore the differences, how to evaluate the problem, and what can be done about it. There are new treatments for Alzheimer’s disease, but what are the benefits and risks?
Janice Knoefel, MD, MPH, is a neurologist and geriatrician with decades of experience. She has been on the faculties of the University of Cincinnati and Boston University, as well as UNM, where she participates in clinical care, teaching, and research. Knoefel is especially interested in preventing the neurological diseases of aging.
