A Wheaton College study estimates that nearly one-quarter of all Americans profess themselves to have been “born again” and belong to evangelical churches. Seventy-two percent of Evangelicals give Donald Trump high marks for his performance during the first year of his second term. This lecture addresses two questions: What are the origins of contemporary evangelical Protestantism, and why do the majority of the members of this faith support the Republican Party and its standard-bearer?
