Description

The history of the Special Collections Library closely mirrors the history of Albuquerque itself. Built in 1925 as the city’s first public library, the building expanded over the decades alongside the city before serving as the Main Library until 1975, when the downtown “New Main” location was opened.  This tour highlights distinctive architectural features, including Gustave Baumann’s signature over the door, and a relief of Robert Louis Stevenson in the Center for the Book, along with selections from the library’s rich archival collections. Limited enrollment.
