In this presentation, Historian Robert Tórrez explores the pride New Mexicans took in celebrating their independence from Spain through the 6th of September, the official commemoration of Mexico’s struggle for independence. We review the elaborate plans made for these and other celebrations of patriotism in New Mexico.

Robert Tórrez is a native New Mexican who served as the state historian from 1987-2000. He has researched New Mexico archives for decades. He is the author of several books and has contributed chapters to nearly two dozen anthologies and textbooks.
