Edward Kennedy “Duke” Ellington wrote more songs than any other American composer, most of which were jazz and dance tunes, though some took a more somber tone. His influence on jazz, particularly on harmony and orchestration, was tremendous, and his impact on both American and world culture is incalculable. The class features both musical performance and discussion about the significance of Ellington’s pieces.
Robert Lah is a lifelong jazz pianist and educator. He taught music at levels K-college, including high school and university jazz ensembles. He has worked with jazz combos, big bands, dance bands, and symphonies. He is an experienced arranger and composer and performs locally with a variety of jazz groups. Linda Davidson is a well-known Albuquerque jazz flutist who leads Jazz To Go.
