Murals by Indigenous artists throughout the United States and Canada are an exciting and impressive body of work. Due to their abundance, this presentation focuses on a special selection: murals created by Indigenous women artists. The lecture includes biographical information about the artists and photographs of the murals themselves while exploring how these powerful public works celebrate cultural identity.
Robin Dunitz has a BA in history from the University of California, Berkeley, and began documenting murals in Los Angeles in 1984 after visiting Mexico City’s famous mural masterpieces. She later wrote a guidebook to LA County murals, organized tours for the Mural Conservancy of Los Angeles, and co-authored two coffee table books; one on California murals and another on African American murals across the US.
