Description

Abelard was a famous philosopher/theologian at the University of Paris in the 12th century. One of his students was Heloise. Their relationship developed into a romance that was strictly forbidden and thus there were tragic consequences for them both. This lecture looks at the lives and work of both these amazing human beings and considers the meaning of faith and love in a tragic situation. Recommended but not required reading: The Letters of Abelard and Heloise (in various translations).

Rev. Dr. Frank Yates is the Parish Associate at First Presbyterian Church. A graduate of Abilene Christian University and the University of Texas at Austin and Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, Frank has served as a pastor for 46 years and now teaches at UNM, St. Norbert College and Lewis University.
