Duran Central Pharmacy (Duran’s), the iconic independent drugstore near Old Town, has been in business since 1942, providing pharmaceutical resources to our community, as well as serving up quality New Mexican food. Our tour begins at Remedy, a café next to Duran’s, with a cup of coffee and pastry. Mona Ghattas, whose family purchased Duran’s in 1965 from Pete Duran, provides history and then leads us on a tour of the pharmacy. Limited enrollment.
Mona Ghattas, Duran’s president, owns and operates the pharmacy and restaurant. She has been a pharmacist since 1984 and was the New Mexico Pharmacists Association’s 2019 president. She graduated from UNM with a BS in pharmacy.
