Birgitta Gustafson explores the origins of Islam, its major beliefs and practices, its initial spread and the two major sects: Sunni and Shi’a. We look at the life of Muhammad, the prophet of Islam and the Qur’an, the scripture of Islam. Finally, Gustafson discusses the relationship between Islam, Judaism and Christianity, the so-called ‘religions of Abraham’. 

Birgitta Gustafson is a retired English/Social Studies teacher. She received her BA from New York University with a major in religious studies and a minor in literature. She received a masters degree from Harvard Divinity School, concentrating her studies on Islam and world religions, with a particular focus on India. She has taught world religions, comparative western religions, comparative theology, and has engaged in inter-religious dialogue among Jews, Christians and Muslims.
