Description
Burial has been part of human cultural traditions for thousands of years. However, contemporary discussions of death have typically been reserved for behind the closed doors of funeral homes, and only recently has there been a renewed desire for the community to become active participants in the death process. This class discusses what natural burial is, how it benefits the environment, and the rights that you have to care for your loved ones after death.
Claire McFadyen and Bryan Beard are the co-owners and operators of Natural Burial New Mexico and La Puerta Natural Burial Ground. McFadyen has bachelor’s degrees in anthropology and ecology and evolutionary biology, as well as a master’s degree in public health with an emphasis on environmental health. Beard has a BS in industrial design and has a passion for creating things and spaces that invoke meaning.
