Description
Take a visit to Tijeras Pueblo, a 14th-century archaeological site that is listed on the National Register of Historical Places. The tour includes a gentle half-mile trail with stops at a pollinator garden, a waffle garden, and a Native plant interpretive garden, as well as tidbits of information gleaned from 15 years of helping maintain the grounds, trails, and surrounding areas of the pueblo. Following the walk, step into the indoor interpretive center to learn more about the archeology of the site. Limited enrollment.
Ann Ruhnka has spent the past 15 years volunteering at Tijeras Pueblo, first as a museum docent with Friends of Tijeras Pueblo and later as a Site Watch volunteer with the Forest Service. She has a lifelong interest in experiential archaeology and finding out what is edible, medicinal, and of practical use in native environments.
