Join University of New Mexico’s Occupational Therapy students and faculty for a personalized falls prevention experience. Receive an individual balance assessment to identify your specific risk factors, followed by practical guidance on making your home and community environments safer. The OTs (and OTs in training) will help you recognize environmental hazards and provide customized strategies—both behavioral and environmental—to keep you steady and independent. Leave with actionable steps you can implement immediately to reduce your fall risk. This offering is a combination of individualized content/feedback and lecture in a group setting. Class A and B are the same. Limited enrollment.

 

Janet Poole, PhD, OTR/L, and Fellow of the American Occupational Therapy Association, is an occupational therapist and professor of Occupational Therapy at UNM. She specializes in age-related changes and falls prevention in older adults. She also teaches UNM’s Interprofessional Geriatric course and frequently presents on arthritis and age-related factors contributing to falls.

 

Jessica Salazar, MSW, MOT, OTR/L, is an occupational therapist and lecturer of UNM’s Occupational Therapy Graduate Program. She teaches Community Health, focusing on chronic conditions, health promotion, and community accessibility. She also teaches UNM’s Interprofessional Geriatric course, bringing with her expertise in chronic disease, chronic pain, and mental health.
