As we age, there is some loss of muscle mass that occurs. While this can be normal to an extent, losing so much muscle mass that we begin to have balance problems or have trouble getting out of a chair or off the floor can be dangerous and is not considered normal aging. Learn how to maintain and improve muscle mass as you age with a combination of exercise and nutrition.
Lauren Baier earned a Doctor of Physical Therapy from Washington University in St. Louis. She is interested in balance training and falls prevention in older adults and is a geriatric clinical specialist. Baier has worked in Guatemala, Missouri, Los Lunas, and now Albuquerque at Langford PT. She also serves as a co-state advocate for the American Physical Therapy Association, Geriatrics.
