On February 19, 1955, at 7:03 a.m., TWA flight 260 received permission to take off from the Albuquerque airport and vector toward Santa Fe for its next stop. At 7:13, TWA Flight 260 crashed into the Sandias, killing all 13 passengers and three crew members. Albuquerque Historical Society Board Member Terry Owen is a retired US Navy officer who served on submarines, submersibles, and surface combatant ships. Following his 20 year Navy career, he worked at Sandia National Laboratories for 18 years. In his spare time, he volunteers as a mountain guide for Kirtland Air Force Base Outdoor Recreation and the Rio Grande Chapter of the Sierra Club.
