Description

Mythology consists of sacred legends that explain the origins of life and the world. It offers guidance through stories of deities and heroic people. These narratives are embedded in respected rituals and traditions. Over thousands of years, Western cultures have shifted from mythology to history, using factual sources, archaeology, and written records to reconstruct the past. History shows that change and progress have consequences. What has been lost and what has been gained?

Maya Sutton has taught Celtic History and Mythology at UNM for decades. Her research in Europe over 30 years has traced cultural customs from Paleolithic and Neolithic eras to the present time. She found that a repeated pattern moves from open to closed practices in healing, ceremony, learning, and power.
