Description

Newly published by the UNM Press, Richard Melzer’s book, A History of New Mexico in 100 Objects, is truly unique, exploring objects discovered in museums across New Mexico and beyond. Included in the collection are photos and stories about valuable artifacts such as the original Storyteller, Ernie Pyle’s typewriter, an American POW’s makeshift garment, and a hippie van from Taos. Melzer has chosen a sample of these objects to share in a colorful examination of New Mexican history.

Richard Melzer was a Regents’ professor of history at UNM’s Valencia Campus, where he taught for more than 35 years before his recent retirement. He has authored or edited more than 30 books and more than 100 articles about New Mexico history. He is a former president of the Historical Society of New Mexico.
