Description

Enjoy a guided hike along trails through the John A. Milne & Gutierrez Canyon Open Space property. Elevations range from 6,100 to 7,600 feet. The area is mostly pinon-juniper forest, with some ponderosa pine. You may see evidence of deer, bear, and mountain lion. Enjoy views of the East Mountains along the way. The hike is 3-3.5 miles at a high elevation. Wear a hat, layers, comfortable hiking shoes, and bring water. Limited enrollment.

Bill Pentler is retired from the Open Space Division of Albuquerque Parks and Recreation. His resume also includes being a lead zookeeper and educational coordinator at Lion Country Safari in Florida, the law enforcement interpretive state park ranger at Fenton Lake in the Jemez Mountains, and a supervisor at Albuquerque’s animal shelters. He holds degrees in zoology and psychology and has led hikes for Oasis for years.
