Jazz Traveler takes listeners well beyond the usual jazz standards, offering a groove-driven sound that’s made for toe tapping. Blending contemporary jazz, Brazilian favorites, a few classic standards, and even familiar TV and movie themes, the group draws on wide musical influences and life experience. Featuring music by Pat Metheny, George Benson, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, and more, Jazz Traveler delivers an energetic performance that welcomes jazz lovers and curious newcomers alike.
Jazz Traveler features four seasoned musicians with deep roots in jazz performance and education. Guitarist Chris Livingston is a UNM music graduate and respected multi-instrumentalist based in Placitas. Bassist Jack Hanan studied at Cleveland State University and Berklee and toured with the Glenn Miller Orchestra. Drummer Wayne Johnson has worked with John Lewis and The Art of Jazz. Keyboardist George Kapalka, a Manhattan School of Music graduate, has performed with Ron Carter, Billy Hart, and others.
