Description
Civil rights and social justice developments from 1973 to the present reveal how the struggles of earlier decades continue to shape contemporary life. Topics include the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1991 and its enforcement, mass incarceration and efforts to reduce prison populations, immigration and deportation policy, and issues of sexual identity. Drawing on historical context and lived experience in civil rights work, Jim Lewis connects these developments to the present and the future now taking shape.
Jim Lewis has degrees from Yale, the University of Chicago Law School, and Duke. He has taught at law schools and worked for the United States Department of Justice, including six years as United States Attorney for Central Illinois. He is now retired, living in Albuquerque, and active in the community.
