For decades, biologist Brian Millsap has studied Golden Eagles across the American West, helping to advance our understanding of their behavior, nesting habits, population dynamics, and conservation needs. This presentation draws on that research to explore the life history of one of North America’s most impressive birds of prey. Topics include nesting territories, breeding ecology, habitat use, survival, and the challenges Golden Eagles face in a changing landscape.
Brian Millsap has BS, MS, and PhD degrees in biology and is currently a senior research scientist in the Department of Fish, Wildlife, and Conservation Ecology at New Mexico State University, where he studies Cooper’s Hawks, American Kestrels, Burrowing Owls, and Golden Eagles. Millsap has published over 100 scientific papers on raptors and has led a long-term study of Cooper’s Hawks in Albuquerque, since 2011.
