What do you know about your family’s history and culture? Anthropologists use a variety of techniques to learn about human history, culture, language, and contributions to community life. Those same techniques can be applied to individual families to develop a more detailed knowledge of the family and its members. Participants keep a notebook on topics covered, and share family stories and culture with the other members of the class.
Marilyn London is an assistant research professor at the University of Maryland. She earned her MA at the University of New Mexico. Her career has included teaching at UMD and the George Washington University. She has served as a forensic anthropologist with a federal disaster response team and assisted the Department of Defense in the recovery of the remains of US military Missing in Action (MIA) from World War II.
