Description
Join us for a day at El Morro National Monument, a remarkable sandstone bluff known for its dramatic scenery and the hundreds of inscriptions left by travelers over the centuries. After traveling by charter bus, park staff give an introduction to the monument’s trails. Participants then have approximately 2½ hours to hike and explore the monument on their own. Following a break for sack lunches, enjoy a special presentation by the Camel Corps, featuring live camels and stories of the US Army’s 1857 camel expedition through the Southwest. This is a high activity tour. You are hiking, walking, and standing at a 7,200-foot altitude. Wear comfortable walking shoes and layered clothing; bring water, sun protection, and anything you need to be comfortable, such as trekking poles, etc. Bring your own sack lunch. This event coincides with special programming at the monument; visitors, including school groups, are expected. Limited enrollment.
