Explore Mexican culture through language, food, and music with Joel Cruz-Esparza. In the first session, learn about basic Spanish pronunciation and conversational skills to boost your confidence in knowing the language, even if you’ve never spoken Spanish before. The second session highlights the flavors of Mexican cuisine with a live demonstration on how to make nopalitos salad and instructions on other traditional dishes. The class concludes with learning and performing “Las Mañanitas,” Mexico’s beloved birthday song, complete with music, rhythm, and dance. Limited enrollment.
Joel Cruz-Esparza grew up splitting time between Mexico City and Los Angeles, becoming fluently bilingual and deeply bicultural. He studied at UC San Diego, UCLA, and the University of Madrid, earning his law degree from UCLA Law School. In New Mexico, his legal career has included roles with Legal Aid, the New Mexico Attorney General’s Office, and the Pueblo of Laguna.
