Stephen Sondheim was one of the most influential composers and lyricists in American musical theater, with a career that began with West Side Story. An exceptionally well-trained musician, he wrote shows with an astonishing range of forms that greatly expanded the boundaries of musical theater. This talk includes many unusual performances of Sondheim’s work, as well as clips of him presenting and discussing his work.
Dan Sherman, PhD, is an economist whose interests include opera and American musical theater. Since 2010, Dan has given many talks and classes on film, film music, classical composers, and great musical theater composers and lyricists. He has spoken to lifelong learning groups, university groups, and social groups in the Washington, DC area and throughout the country via Zoom.
