In the 1940’s, New Mexico archaeologist Bertha Dutton introduced senior Girl Scouts to extraordinary archeological and scientific experiences throughout the Southwest. During a two-week camping tour, Dutton took the girls to explore archaeological sites, visit museums, attend lectures, and eventually participate in excavating a site in the Galisteo Basin. Naomi Sandweiss is a New Mexican and author of Jewish Albuquerque 1860-1960, in addition to other works and book chapters. She is co-president of the New Mexico Jewish Historical Society and holds an MA in history from Arizona State University.
