Description

Baby Boomers want better options for aging at home, yet gaps in today’s care systems leave families to coordinate complex services and provide hands-on care with little support. Publicly funded home care often relies on for-profit, one-size-fits-all models that overlook cultural values and individual preferences. Learn about Encuentro’s community-led program, which trains home health aides to provide services directly to consumers—offering a more responsive approach grounded in trust, dignity, and equity.

Leah Steimel is Director of Home Health & Career Development at Encuentro. Guided by its mission to partner with Latinx immigrant families to expand access to education and career pathways that promote economic opportunity and social justice, the organization is entering its 10th year of providing high-quality, comprehensive home health aide training. With more than 350 graduates, the program connects participants to jobs and continuing education for long-term career growth, while supporting aging in place with care and dignity.
