Description

The Declaration of Independence lies enshrined in the National Archives. Lincoln’s “Gettysburg Address” recalls its date with “four score and seven,” and Martin Luther King Jr. invoked it in his I Have a Dream speech. As the 250th anniversary of the Declaration approaches, it is worth giving it a closer reading. This lecture focuses on the preamble, its meaning, its context, the significance of its phrases, and considers how its echoes still resonate today.
