Description

Originating in the Appalachian Mountains, the dulcimer was widely used in the American old-time music tradition by Scots Irish immigrants and has since evolved to fit nearly every musical style. The dulcimer is one of the easiest instruments to learn to play! In this hands-on class, you learn songs in both traditional and contemporary styles. No previous musical experience is needed. Instruments are available for use during class, though participants who own a dulcimer are encouraged to bring it. Limited enrollment.

After a lifetime of playing other musical instruments and styles, Irma Reeder came to the mountain dulcimer in 2005 and was instantly enchanted. She enjoys teaching voice, guitar, harp, bodhran (Irish frame drum), and mountain dulcimer, and she directs the Oasis Show Tunes chorus.
