Description
After a death, relatives, friends and community members seek to comfort the bereaved. Often, people are unsure of what to say and how to approach conversations about dying, death and grief. Discover useful communication strategies for speaking with grieving individuals, the benefits of being an active listener, and what can be helpful or not helpful to say. We discuss common misconceptions about grief, as well as how to prioritize self-care in difficult times.
Debbie Garrison has come full circle with The Grief Center, beginning her journey in 2003 as a participant with her children after the death of their father. The center’s free peer-to-peer grief support groups had a huge impact on their lives, which led her to find ways to give back and help others. She has been highly involved as a member of the Board of Directors and later as Executive Director. Garrison retired from Albuquerque Public Schools with over 38 years of experience as an educator, principal, and district leader.
