Description
Route 66 was born on November 11, 1926, when it became part of the US Highway System. Stretching 2,448 miles through eight states, it was not fully paved until 1938. After World War II, it became famous through a long-running television series and Bobby Troupe’s song “Get Your Kicks on Route 66.” Today, the Mother Road may be worn, ragged, and faded, but her glory endures in those who love her, travel her, and share her stories. We are here to welcome her 100th birthday.
Ned O’Malia has a PhD in Asian Religions and has taught at the collegiate level for over 50 years. He has a deep love of Route 66, having traveled and lectured on it for more than 25 years. As a Study Guide for Road Scholar tours, he has traveled the entire route from Chicago to Santa Monica seven times. O’Malia also taught the only three-credit college course on Route 66 in America and directed many shorter tours of the Mother Road for UNM.
